It\u2019s impossible to mention the incredible richness of Portuguese silver craft without mentioning this master.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jo\u00e3o Coelho de Sampaio was born in Ruilhe, Braga, in\n1719, and completed his silversmith examination in 1742. In 1768, he became silver\nassayer for the county of Porto. He passed away in 1784.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Throughout his life, he left an impressive legacy. The identity of his master is unknown, but from his technical and creative qualities, one can assume that he was taught by someone with great competence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em>Career<\/em>  <\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Over the years of his career, Jo\u00e3o Coelho de Sampaio\nmaintained relations with several influential figures, receiving important\ncommissions, namely for notable individuals and religious brotherhoods \u2013 such\nas the Venerable Third Order of St. Francis, the Brotherhood of the Poor\nClerics, or the Brotherhood of the Blessed Sacrament of St. Ildefonso.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He gradually gained high reputation as a talented\nmaster silversmith, who was skilled in the execution of religious objects,\nsalvers, writing sets, tea and coffee sets, candlesticks, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This prestige that Jo\u00e3o Coelho de Sampaio gained is\nthe basis for his connection to the Brotherhood of St. Eloy of the Silversmiths,\nin which he performed roles as judge and treasurer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Stylistically, the characteristic way this master silversmith\ninterpreted Rococo stands out, firstly by influence of Habsburgian silver craft\nand later on by elongating the motifs he used (volutes, foliage, flowers,\netc.), by influence of the architect Nicolau Nazoni, responsible among other\nworks for the Cl\u00e9rigos Tower and who worked with the master Jo\u00e3o Coelho de\nSampaio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em>J.
