As a matter of fact, the designation of \u201csapphire\u201d is given to all the corundum with gem quality, with the exception of the red \u2013 which are called rubies. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em>Color<\/em><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p> In nature, a sapphire exists in colourless, blue (colour appearance given by the presence of iron Fe<sup>3+<\/sup>  and titanium), purple, pink, yellow, green, white, and many other  colour variations, depending on the presence of certain chemical  elements (such has iron, titanium, chromium and cobalt). The blue  variant of sapphires tends to be the most desired. But in fact, the  famous \u201cPadparacha\u201d sapphire, in which can go from pinkish to orange in  tone, is highly valorised. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em>Origin<\/em><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>There are sapphires of\ngreat quality found in countries such as Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Vietnam or India.\nThe sapphires from Kashmir, of blue tone and \u201cvelvet\u201d quality, which are very\nfamous and highly sought after, have come to be very hard to find since their\nproduction has halted. The ones that originate from Sri Lanka are also famous,\nbeing popularly known has \u201cCeilan Sapphires\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em>Meaning <\/em><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Spiritual and symbolical\nmeanings have been attributed to this gem. In Antiquity it was believed it was\na wisdom stone. Representing purity and energy, it is also the gem of soul\npeace, with its use being recommended in meditational practices. This gem also\nrepresents a certain spiritual depth, which echoes the depth of its own blue\ncolour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em>Famous Sapphires<\/em><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Some fine examples of\nextraordinary sapphires include the \u201cStar of India\u201d, with more than 560ct, the\n\u201cStar of Asia\u201d (330ct) or the \u201cLogan\u201d (424ct). Even with a smaller size, a\nsapphire in an engagement ring has a special kind of wonder.
